Air Force Clubs transition from credit card system to virtual portal, app

By Debbie Aragon, Air Force Civil Engineer Center / Published April 19, 2017

The Air Force is revolutionizing its club membership program in the coming months, to include a transition away from a club credit card to the Air RoyalAffairDanceForce Club Member Portal.

“Our members are important to us and the credit card membership system was their number one complaint,” said Jonathan Boyd, the Air Force Services Activity chief of nonappropriated fund food and beverage operations. “We’ve changed that and much more with this new portal and we’re very excited to roll it out to our current members and offer it to all of our active-duty force, reservists, retirees and Department of Defense civilians.”

The new Air Force Club Member Portal begins at six pilot bases in May 2017 before being rolled out across the Air Force in late summer. The web- and app-based system allows members to choose their payment methods and receive real-time event information directly on their smart devices.

Currently, member dues are charged to a specific bank-affiliated club membership credit card.

“The beauty of the new system is that members can now use their credit or debit card of choice,” Boyd said. “It’s an easy process … you simply update your profile using your smartphone, tablet, laptop or desktop computer.”

Wateree completes new cabins

newCabinSHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. -- Members of the 20th Force Support Squadron hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony at Wateree Recreation Area near Camden, S.C., Nov. 4.

Curt Marshall, Wateree Recreation Area manager, said the ceremony celebrated the completion of two new cabins that will provide additional overnight opportunities and shorten the standby list the facility maintains when the other 14 cabins are rented.

The construction was originally scheduled to be completed during the 2018 fiscal year, but was completed sooner due to demand and facility usage, said Marshall.

newCabin2Bobby J. Cartrett, 20th FSS community services flight chief, said Wateree Recreation Area has served at least 100,000 customers so far during 2016, whether for overnight stays or day visits.

“They get pretty booked,” said Cartrett about the facility’s cabins. “April to October, they’re booked every weekend.”

The individual units offer three bedrooms, one bathroom and can hold up to eight people for overnight occupancy. Each cabin also has a porch with a view of the lake.

Open houses are scheduled for Nov. 19 and 20 from 12-4 p.m., to give visitors the opportunity to view the new cabins and register to win a free two-night stay.

For more information, contact the Wateree Recreation Area office at 803-432-7976. Reservations can be made by contacting the reservation line at 877-928-8373 or online at http://www.20thfss.com/.
